They kinda explained this in one ep, Yesod is a part of tree of life that got split into even smaller parts, one of them is sacred sword and one is Alas Ramus. Maou-sama is a demon that got trained by an angel and given a Yesod part which was Alas Ramus, then he risen te be a Demon Lord, defeated by Hero and teleported to human world. In S1 was mostly described how he became friends with Emilia, this season is mostly about Yesod parts and how everyone wanna get their hands on them :P At least it's what I remember :D

Most of the stuff we get told eventually winds together and connects, the yesod fragments are a major story part ATM.

it was a good episode but i just need to say this the difference in his demon form from season 1 and this season is quite dissapionting felt more like he was a transformed human then actual demon :(
